My Approach

My work focuses on helping individuals struggling with anxiety, OCD, relationship difficulties, trauma, life transitions, and the often-complex questions of identity and existence. Many of the people I work with are high-achieving, introspective adults—often immigrants, first-generation, or creatives—who find themselves caught between external expectations and internal unrest, often living between cultures, identities, or versions of themselves. Through a psychoanalytic lens, we explore how unconscious structures, internalized dynamics, and the language you use to make sense of your emotional world and your deeper truths.

Rather than simply aiming to "fix" symptoms, I’m particularly attuned to the ways desire, fears, and longing reveal themselves in both subtle and disruptive ways—sometimes through anxiety, compulsions, or emotional stuckness. We also consider the broader human struggles: meaning, freedom, loneliness, and authenticity. Together, we make sense of what feels fragmented, examine the roles and stories you've unconsciously inherited, and create space for deeper connection—with yourself, with others, and with what matters most to you.

My commitment involves embracing an integrative and trauma-informed multicultural perspective to support you effectively. My approach is deeply rooted in the creation of inclusive, anti-racist, and anti-oppressive spaces. As a Latina, I stand by and advocate for BIPOC, sex-positive, LGBTQ+, and marginalized communities

My Story

I was born and raised in Venezuela. I immigrated to the United States due to my home country’s deteriorating sociopolitical situation. During my time at Miami Dade College, I transitioned from my long dedication to music to discovering and pursuing my innate passion for understanding the human psyche and the life-saving role of psychotherapy. This passion evolved into intense curiosity, leading me to volunteer as a research assistant. This experience allowed me to gain insights into clinical research with a diverse population in Miami, and I was honored with several awards for my research presentations.

To continue my educational journey, I transferred to the University of Miami, where I graduated Summa Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology (with a minor in Philosophy) and received Departmental Honors for my Senior Honors Thesis. To chase my childhood dreams, I relocated to NYC with the aspiration of pursuing graduate studies in psychology and expanding my involvement in psychological research, particularly focusing on mental health and the arts. I earned my Master's Degree in Mental Health Counseling from New York University while completing clinical training in private practices. I am now a licensed mental health counselor and the founder of Mar Psychotherapy, where I provide psychotherapy to individuals and couples in the NYC area. Alongside my clinical work, I continue to support students as a college consultant, guiding students toward success and helping them realize their personal, academic, and professional growth.

Beyond these professional roles, I am a sentient and creative being with a deep love for music (including singing, playing instruments, songwriting, and music production). I enjoy engaging in profound conversations while making someone smile with my occurrences. I possess a natural curiosity about people and relish the opportunity to learn something new every day :)
