I'm Mehar!

Many of the people I work with have spent years feeling misunderstood, pressured to perform, or disconnected from their own needs - learning to push through rather than pause, reflect, and acknowledge their feelings. I understand how isolating it can be to carry these experiences alone, and I strive to create a space where your story is heard and your experiences are respected.

I work with students, immigrants, and young adults navigating life’s crossroads — whether that means exploring identity, adjusting to new environments, or working through complex emotions and relationship challenges. I believe every person who comes to therapy brings their own history, strengths, and hopes for change.

My approach to therapy is integrative and collaborative, drawing from psychodynamic, cognitive-behavioral, and person-centered perspectives. I tailor my work to each individual, supporting clients as they explore their experiences, develop greater self-understanding, and build resilience over time. I aim to create a therapeutic space that feels warm, thoughtful, and affirming — where you can show up as you are, without judgment.

As someone with a South Asian background and cross-cultural experience, I also bring a deep respect for the ways culture, identity, and family expectations shape our inner lives. I strive to offer therapy that is not only empathetic and personalized, but also attentive to the cultural narratives and lived realities that inform each client’s story.

My Story

I’ve been fascinated by the human mind for as long as I can remember, which drew me to the field of psychology at a young age. Growing up in India, I saw firsthand how mental health was often surrounded by stigma, silence, and misunderstanding. Those early experiences shaped my desire to challenge these misconceptions and advocate for open, compassionate conversations about mental health, especially within communities of color, where these barriers still exist today.

That passion eventually brought me to New York, where I pursued my childhood dream of becoming a psychotherapist and expanding my opportunities to learn and grow. My cross-cultural background allows me to approach therapy with a multicultural lens, something I believe is essential in a world as diverse as ours.

I am a bilingual psychotherapist (English-Hindi) and hold a Master of Science in Mental Health Counseling from SUNY Oswego. Outside the therapy room, you’ll usually find me spending time with family and friends, exploring new restaurants and cozy cafés, or playing badminton on the weekends to recharge.
